We serve an awesome God. He is a God of love and majesty. He is a just God. A study of His character and attributes reveal a Father who is the epitome of fatherhood. He is a Father who has an incomprehensible love for His children. God is not a child abuser nor is He a God who wants to see us suffer. In the redemptive plan of the cross, the death of Jesus was accomplished for the eternal life of all who would believe in Him as Savior. This sacrificial death was to buy back mankind from his fallen state. In death, He purchased our salvation, plus redeemed us from sickness and poverty. In the book of 2nd Peter, we see an incredible statement concerning the Christian life: 1;2-4, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”. Notice that it says that we as believers have been given all things that have to do with life and godliness. The redemptive work of the cross was a complete work. Jesus died to give us abundant life right here, right now and on into eternity. You'll also see in verse four, that through the exceedingly great and precious promises, we may be partakers of the divine nature. We have the right and ability to walk in a realm that God calls divine. We can partake of divine health, divine provision, divine protection and all things of the heavenly realm. In Matthew 6:10, in the Lords prayer it says: Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. We see that the Lord wants His will done here on earth as it is in heaven. Is there sickness in heaven? No way! The Lord desires to reveal Himself and His kingdom through the lives of believers.
I am amazed at all the people that we've talked to or ministered to who believe the
following: (1) "God won't heal them;"(2) "God can't heal them;" (3) "God caused their sickness for some reason;" (4) "They are not worthy of being healed ;" (5) "God only heals sometimes;" (6) "God is glorified through sickness."
The following truth concerns the nature and character of our Lord and Savior:(1) "He wants us healed;"(2) "He has power available to manifest our healing;" (3) "He never causes sickness;" (4)"His children, 'Born again Christians', are all worthy of healing;" (5) "His power is available all the time;"(6)"He is glorified in healing and never in sickness!"
Our Father loves us so much that He paid a great price for us. In that purchase, He bought our healing. We have a right to a healthy life and the scriptures clearly show us this divine reality.
Sickness has its root cause in man's fall. Nature has gone wild with the law of decay, with disease and illnesses being a part of this world that we live in. When any person gets sick, it is important to understand that we fight that sickness with every means available. The ultimate healing comes from the Lord, but receiving help from physicians and medication is acceptable in the process of believing for the Lord's healing touch. Medicine has its purpose and value, however they have limited application. There are many things medicine cannot cure and many things in which it cannot do other than ease symptoms. Medicine is of great value in many cases, but it is a limited science. When medicine comes to an end, we have a higher law that we can draw on. The scriptures clearly indicate several ways that the Lord has given to His children so that they may overcome sickness with the power available to us through His Word. The Bible says that believers can lay hands on the sick and they shall recover (Mark 16:18), it says that the prayer of faith shall save the sick (James 5), there is something called the prayer of agreement and scripture even talks about calling the elders of the church to pray and anoint the sick person with oil.
